Liebster Award: Discover Some Great New Blogs

Sunday while I was spending some time with my family I looked at my phone to check in on some email and was floored by what I saw! Becky at the Compassionate Teacher had nominated me for the Liebster Award!! I already had some posts scheduled so I knew I wanted to wait until Wednesday for this post. When I woke up yesterday morning I had another nomination from Annie at Three Cheers for First Grade! WOW! Thanks so much to both these ladies!

When I first started this blog I never could've imagined what an impact it would have on both my professional and personal life. I love all the blogging buddies I've come to know and look forward to all the great ideas everyone shares.

I'd seen the Liebster Award badge on other blogs I love to follow, but I wasn't up on all the details of the award. Liebster is German and means "dearest," "lovely," "beloved," and "welcome."

To accept the nomination I must:
1. Link back to the blog that nominated me
2. Nominate 5-11 blogs with fewer than 200 followers
3. Answer the questions posted for you by your nominator
4. Share 11 random facts about yourself
5. Create 11 questions for your nominees
6. Contact your nominees and let them know you nominated them

The blogs I've nominated are all blogs I really enjoy following. Each teacher has so many wonderful ideas to share and I always look forward to seeing their posts pop up on my reader. They are:

Now, on to answer the questions I was given. I decided to answer half of Becky's questions and half of Annie's.

Here are the first 5 from Becky:
1. What was your favorite year in school?
My favorite year in school was 6th grade. I remember crying on the last day of school that year because I'd enjoyed it so much. I had some amazing teachers that year. Our elementary school went through 6th grade, so we were the "top dogs," took part in a lot of special activities, and we got to help with the yearbook!

2. What do you miss most about being a kid?
I miss how a day seemed like it stretched on forever and the summer seemed endless. The older I get the more quickly time goes by and I'd love to be able to slow it down.

3. What story does your family always tell about you?
Gosh, this one is hard. I guess my family likes to tell stories about how clumsy I am. I've fallen and tripped over a lot of little silly things, like a yellow line in a parking lot! The one they tell most often is how I was riding my brand new bike and just tipped it over in the gravel driveway. I was stuck underneath and yelled for help that it really didn't look like I needed all that much. When they turned me over my knee was gashed open and I need a lot of stitches! There was a lot of excitement that day so we always like to relive all the different reactions from my family members!

4. Do you have a special talent?
I can clog dance and used to be on a clog dancing team called the Virginia Sugarcane Cloggers. We would travel to festivals and perform. It was a lot of fun!

5. Where's your favorite vacation spot?
My favorite vacation spot is Piegon Forge, TN. It's only about 3 hours away from us so we go there for long weekends a couple times a year. We usually rent a cabin and just stay in and relax.

And here are the last 6 from Annie:

6. What is your favorite sport?
I'm not athletic (see the clumsy story above), but I do like softball mostly because I did play a few years so I actually know what's going on!

7. What is your favorite holiday?
This one is a tie between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

8. What is your dream vacation?
My dream vacation is an Outlander tour through Scotland with my sister.  She is my best friend and we are both huge fans of the Outlander series by Diana Galbadon, so we would no doubt have an amazing time and probably get kicked out of the group for laughing too much!

9. If you could have a celebrity visit your classroom, who would it be?
Wow, I'm not sure. I'm not really a big celebrity follower, but I guess I would choose someone my students would recognize and be excited to talk to.

10. Who inspires you?
My husband inspires me. When he sets his mind to something he works tirelessly to reach his goal. He is compassionate and always doing little things to make someone's day easier, like leaving the closest parking spots for someone who might really need it and leaving a $10 tip for a $15 meal.

11. Sweet or salty?
Sweet! I could just eat sweets all day and never have any "real" food!

Here are 11 random facts about me:

1. At 5:15 in the summer I am waiting at the door for my husband to come home so I can make up for all the "quiet" time I've had during the day. It is difficult for me to transition from spending my days talking at school to not talking at home during the summer.
2. I taught myself to sew a few years ago and I think it is very relaxing.
3. I love trees.
4. I am an introvert.
5. My favorite song is "Redeemed" by Big Daddy Weave.
6. I like to try new things and take classes for them. I've taken classes for cake decorating, photography, scrapbooking, and clogging.
7. I love to craft.
8. I'm addicted to Pinterest.
9. I could eat ice cream at any time of the day.
10. I have taken a book to more than one sporting event and read during the game.
11. I am addicted to polka dots. They are everywhere!

Now, I get to ask my nominees 11 questions. So here they are:

1. If you could choose any 2 consecutive months of the year to have your "summer" break which months would you choose?
2. If you could take your class on a field trip to anywhere in the world where would you go?
3. If you weren't a teacher what would you be?
4. If you have a day all to yourself what is your favorite way to spend it?
5. What is your favorite food?
6. If you were stuck on an island and could only have 3 items with you what would they be?
7. What is your favorite vacation spot?
8. Do you have any pets?
9. Do you prefer the mountains or the beach?
10. What is your favorite tv show?
11. What book have you read recently that you would recommend?

Bonus fact about me: I'm from the South, so I can say bless your heart for reading all this rambling about me and thank you so much for following my blog and supporting me!

  2. Congrats on your award! I love the song Redeemed and am also addicted to Pinterest and ice cream. My hubby calls my ice cream obsession my "inner fat kid". I could eat it anytime, all the time!

  5. Congratulations on your nomination. I wanted to nominate you as well, but I saw that you had already been nominated & I didn't know we could nominate someone more than once. I love reading your blog. (And I love the polka dots :)) I completely agree with you about longs days & endless summers as a kid. I think summers as a kid were the best. And Thanksgiving or Christmas? That is a difficult choice. I too love them both. I love all the food at Thanksgiving, but I love spending time with my family at Christmas, many tradition with that holiday.
